With the prospect of an environmental crisis increasing at an alarming rate, the need for efficient, cheap and renewable sources of energy greatens. In order to test our tech knowledge and help provide us insight into clean energy solutions that could help improve today's society's ecological footprint Mr Hughes assigned us the Wind Turbine Summative. The goal: create a fully functioning wind turbine that can create a decent amount of voltage using a minimal amount of resources all of which are recycled (apart from the motor and gears). The key to this project was to create a brand that balanced materials with power, efficiency and style. The following is our Wind Turbine Project:
What is a Wind Turbine?
Before commencing our analysis on our company and our wind turbine's design it is important to establish a basis on what a wind turbine is.Essentially, a wind turbine is a device that generates electricity using the kinetic energy of the wind. It is renewable since wind is an environmental phenomenon that is seemingly endless. The major external factors that normally affect a wind turbine's electricity output such as the amount of wind are avoided in our project since the amount of wind our wind turbine is receiving based on its localisation is constant; Mr. Hughes' fan turned on high. Since Mr. Hughes provided us with a motor as seen in the materials section the major problems and research that had to be done was regarding the efficiency of the frame etc.
